Programme Overview

The Girls in Career Boost (GCB) program is a flagship initiative of GAF, designed to inspire, equip, and empower young girls to pursue rewarding careers in STEM fields. Through a blend of mentorship, hands-on learning experiences, and exposure to real-world applications of STEM concepts, GCB is strategically positioned to tackle the underrepresentation of girls in STEM, while simultaneously nurturing a robust pipeline of talented and passionate female professionals poised to make significant contributions in these critical fields. In addition to nurturing a robust pipeline of talented and passionate female professionals, GCB also introduces an Ambassadorial Program. This program engages undergraduate STEM students who serve both as mentors and workshop facilitators, further enriching the GCB experience. These ambassadors lead by example, fostering a community of enthusiastic learners and future leaders in STEM. The GCB program consists of three progressive one-year programs, each tailored to a specific age group and educational level, spanning from junior secondary school to the gap year phase.

Programme Structure

GCB Foundation

Targeted at girls aged 10-14 in junior secondary school, this one-year program introduces STEM through interactive workshops and hands-on activities led by university STEM students. The curriculum emphasizes creativity and critical thinking, complemented by mentorship from female STEM professionals who inspire and guide participants.

GCB Intermediate

Tailored for girls in senior secondary school (ages 15-17), the GCB Intermediate program spans one year with the objective of deepening participants’ understanding of STEM subjects, facilitating exploration of STEM career paths, and providing guidance on educational and career planning. Leadership development workshops are also provided to hone participants’ leadership skills, public speaking abilities, and self-confidence, enabling them to pursue their aspirations with conviction.

GCB Advance

GCB Advance targets girls aged 18-19 who have completed secondary education and are transitioning to higher education or the workforce. Over one year, the program offers advanced training, practical experience, and mentorship to prepare participants for success in higher education and STEM careers. Through specialized training modules, participants gain in-depth knowledge and skills. Internship opportunities provide hands-on experience with leading STEM organizations, while mentorship and career coaching sessions offer personalized guidance on academic and career planning, goal setting, and personal development.
